Wako (Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will begin selling a limited-edition Wako model of Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese wristwatches, on October 7th, with pre-orders beginning September 1st. This Wako limited-edition model features an elegant coloring incorporating purple, a color that has long been considered a noble color in Japan. The delicate dial features an "Iwate Mountain Pattern" that evokes the majestic Mount Iwate as seen from Shizukuishi, the Grand Seiko Studio where Grand Seiko's mechanical watches are crafted. The pale purple color is inspired by the kiri flower, Iwate Prefecture's prefectural flower. The "Edo purple" color of the GMT hand is also famous as the color of the headband worn by Sukeroku, Edo's most dandy, in the kabuki play "Sukeroku Yuen Edo Sakura." The accent color adds a touch of chic to any sophisticated man's look. Due to Edo's reputation for purple dyeing, the bluish purple dyed there is referred to as "Edo purple" (although there are various theories).
