The "PND Photobook Drinking Party," an art book fair featuring photobooks that can be enjoyed with a drink in hand, will be held at drapeau in Osaka's Chuo Ward on May 14th and 15th. Over 40 publishers, bookstores, and galleries will set up tables selling photobooks and zines. There will also be booths selling specialty alcoholic beverages, allowing visitors to casually chat with exhibitors over a drink. The title "Photobook Drinking Party" originated from a small group of people passing around photobooks in a corner of an izakaya. As the number of participants increased, the venue was expanded, eventually leading to the development of a book fair. Last year, the event was held twice at VACANT in Tokyo's Harajuku. This year's Osaka venue will be more than three times larger than the Tokyo event, with significantly more booths. This will be the largest full-scale art book fair held in the Kansai region and the largest photobook event in Japan. Exhibitors include Akaakasha, which publishes the photo book of Ishikawa Ryuichi, a Kimura Ihei Award-winning artist who has been making waves for his photographs of Utada Hikaru; Match & Company, run by Machiguchi Satoru, which designed the reprint of "Sentimental Journey," the starting point of Araki Nobuyoshi and Araki; and Nanarokusha, which produced the huge hit "Mirai-chan." Other publishers appearing include Nikutesha, Art beat publishers, book of days, Caravan book, CITYRAT press, CONTACT HIGH ZINE, flotsam books, GRAF publishers, Harmonica Antiquarian Bookstore, IDEA BOOKS, Kaido, lemon books, Libro Arte, Luketh, LVDB BOOKS, Osumi Shoten, PGI, PHaTPHOTO, Place M books, POST, Rasen, RED Photo Gallery, roshin books, satellite, Sawada Mansion Gallery, Seigensha, shashasha, Sokyusha, Solaris, Studio Journal knock, Super Labo, T&M Projects, TAP gallery, The Third Gallery Aya, Tokyo College of Photography, twelvebooks, Umeda Tsutaya Bookstore, VACUUM PRESS, VERO, Visual Arts Osaka, womb-magazine, and zen photo gallery. Food and drink booths will include Yamanaka Sake Shop/Sake, Campofrio, Minoh Beer, Kibi Doteshita Beer Brewery, and TAKAMURA Wine & Coffee Roasters.
The event's image photo features photos of adorable drunks taken by Argentina-based photographer Henrik Malmstrom while frequenting bars in Hamburg, Germany. This work, which can be considered a modern version of photographer Anders Petersen's collection of works, "Cafe Lehmitz," is included in "Life is One Live it Well," a photo book published last year that attracted a lot of attention and received international acclaim.
In addition, a special photo exhibition will be held by culinary researcher Natsuko Kuwahara, who has also published books such as "Bread and a Pinch."
