"Mark Gonzales: Tokyo Silkscreen," an exhibition by professional skateboarder and artist Mark Gonzales, will be held at Art Space AM in Harajuku, Tokyo, from May 13th to 20th.
Mark Gonzales emerged like a comet in California in the 1980s. He captivated many young people with his unparalleled technique and free-spirited street spirit, and remains a legend in the skateboarding world today. He also works as an artist, and his refreshing brushstrokes, humorous compositions that seem to exude a unique worldview, and occasional poetic messages have not only garnered acclaim as an artist and poet, but also the fashion world and various media.
This exhibition recreates the essence of Mark Gonzales through a unique installation using new materials and techniques. The exhibition will feature limited-edition artworks recreating his signature works using a variety of special paints, as well as silkscreen reproductions on washi paper, a material unique to Japan. The artwork will be silkscreened one by one onto out-of-print handmade Japanese paper and will be sold in a limited run of five.
