■ "Cy Twombly's Photographs: Lyric Variations"
Cy Twombly (1928-2011) is one of the most representative artists of the 20th century, widely known for his paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He also left behind a large body of photographic work over the approximately 60 years leading up to his death. His first photography exhibition in Japan, "Cy Twombly's Photographs: Lyric Variations," is currently running until August 28th at the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture.
His photographs are far from eccentric; they feature familiar subjects, such as fruits and flowers on the table in his studio and landscapes from his travels. They were taken with a Polaroid camera and then enlarged on a copier, giving them a hazy, soft, and poetic atmosphere, as if one had entered another world.
In addition to his photographs, this book also includes the paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints featured in the exhibition. This book is packed with content. Be sure to pick up a copy of this book along with this exhibition, which is a rare opportunity to see it in Japan.
