A new commercial space with approximately 3,700 square meters of retail space will open in the Marunouchi underground area of JR Tokyo Station between summer 2016 and summer 2017.
The new area stretches 300 meters north to south, spanning inside the ticket gates. The area outside the gates will be a new facility called "Gransta Marunouchi," while the area inside the gates will be an expansion of the "Gransta" shopping complex inside the station. Based on the concept of "Expanding Tokyo Station Time," the new space will offer new value to residents of Tokyo Station and the surrounding area by realizing four key points: a concentration of trendy shops, a selection of stores that will make you want to stop by, a space where you can enjoy discovering and combining products you like, and a place that will inspire new lifestyle changes.
The Marunouchi underground area will also be divided into four zones, and the environmental design will address the diverse needs of different customer groups, which vary greatly depending on the surrounding environment. The expanded Gransta area, which serves as the entrance to the station's commercial complex and attracts a diverse range of customers, will feature a collection of products to meet various needs, including souvenirs and gifts, on the central concourse side. The south exit side will offer a selection of products tailored to daily needs, creating a zone packed with essentials to enrich everyday life.
The area around the Marunouchi Underground North Exit, where routes to Marunouchi, Otemachi, and Yaesu intersect, will feature shops supporting the daily lives of businesspeople passing by. The area around the Marunouchi Underground South Exit, which connects to the city, will feature unique and discerning shops arranged like street-level shops, creating a sense of continuity with the city and creating a new lively atmosphere as an "exo-to" space extending from the station to the city.
The area around the Marunouchi Underground Central Exit, which connects the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line and JR Tokyo Station, will feature food and dine-in shops. In addition to everyday shopping, there will also be exclusive products and experience corners that can only be found here.
