A New York destination I want to visit by bicycle: East River Ferry [Pedal. Ride through New York.]

May 25, 2016
A new approach: cycling through New York. What does New York look like from a bicycle, not a taxi, subway, or even walking?

Yuki Goto of Manhattan bicycle shop CHARI&CONYC, LLC will guide you through New York's sights you'll want to see by bicycle and recommended cafes and restaurants for a quick break!

There are three bridges connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. Each has its own unique charm, and you can cross them by bicycle. All are highly recommended, and if you have the time, I hope you'll cycle across them all.

That said, my recommendation this time is the East River Ferry. Rather than being a recommended spot, it's a recommended transport option. It costs $4 on weekdays and $6 on weekends. It runs from 34th Street in the north to Wall Street in the south. It stops at one stop in Queens and four stops in Brooklyn. Best of all, you can bring your bicycle along (an extra $1). Many commuters use it, so the final stops on the Manhattan side are Midtown, home to many major companies, and Wall Street on the south side.

However, during the day, it's mostly empty, so you can sit back and relax, and you can enjoy a leisurely, dramatic view of the Manhattan skyline from the boat. Between spring and summer, it's incredibly comfortable, and I'd love to ride it forever. Although it's a ferry, it moves at a fair speed and catches the wind, so crossing bridges isn't difficult.

We pass under the Williamsburg Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Brooklyn Bridge, and get off in the Dumbo district on the Brooklyn side, where you can enjoy gorgeous views and an ice cream shop, so we recommend it.
