Bozka, a female artist from Warsaw, Poland, who paints plants with an original touch, has created the pop-up book series "New Botany." Each piece in this series is handcrafted, and each is unique. At first glance, they are drawn in with delicate touches and captivating color schemes that draw you in, drawing you in to the details.
The "New Botany" project was not originally intended to be a three-dimensional expression. After completing each piece on a flat surface, she thought it would be interesting to combine them into a three-dimensional work, and so the pop-up book format was born. One of the reasons for this was that she was exhausted from working on a computer every day and wanted to create something with her own hands.
However, she did not take on the project lightly. For this project, she read several books on pop-up books and even attended a week-long pop-up book production class at West Dean College in the UK.
It took three to four weeks to complete each piece. "It was a time-consuming and complicated process. I kept cutting and gluing the 1:1 scale model! I kept working until it matched exactly what I had in mind. Some of the more complicated parts took 14 hours to assemble," she said, revealing the considerable attention to detail, effort, and time that went into her work.
The realistically drawn plants, animals, and insects are laid out in a tightly packed layout, allowing you to experience a surreal, fantastical world. She says she wanted to create a piece that would give people the same feeling as when Alice fell down the hole that led to Wonderland.
