Sneakers have sparked an unprecedented boom, attracting attention from all generations, from those who experienced the '90s boom to young people. A documentary film focusing on sneakers, "Sneakerheads," is scheduled for release in Japan this fall.
Coupled with the popularity of casual styles like normcore and sports mix, sneakers have become a common sight on people's feet. This film conveys the appeal of sneakers by following the "sneakerheads" who are such a sucker for them.
The sneakerheads depicted in this film show an incredible love and dedication for sneakers. Some people hide in dumpsters to get their hands on Nike's Retro Jordan 11, while others line up in tents for days in sub-zero temperatures to get their hands on the latest Nike Foamposites. The film captures these sneaker-obsessed people on the streets of Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake City, Boston, New York, Houston, and even Tokyo, exploring the cultural impact of sneakers around the world. Other characters who have a connection to sneakers also appear in the film, including DJ Clark Kent, who consulted for Nike, designer Frank the Butcher, and sneaker collector Jeff Staple. The film will be released in November at Shibuya Cine Quinto and other theaters.
