This fall, the focus is on "schoolgirl style." Shinjuku Isetan presents 70s style for adults

Aug 18, 2015

70s-style fashion looks set to remain a trend this fall. Isetan Shinjuku, which has begun rolling out its fall/winter collection, is also showcasing timeless styles from the 70s that have established today's standards. Urban Closet on the second floor of the same store is running a promotion featuring the timeless "schoolgirl style," featuring the iconic black bow of 70s designer Yves Saint Laurent. By coordinating basic items like striped tops, knee-length checked skirts, and jumper skirts with long pleated skirts, detachable collars, and gaucho pants, you can enjoy a schoolie look with a silhouette perfect for this year.

■ If you want to enjoy a schoolgirl style with a touch of fashion

A style reminiscent of American schoolgirl style, layering a denim shirt (16,000 yen) from Ready for the Weekend (hereafter RFW) with a varsity jacket (29,000 yen/RFW) and deliberately styling it with a long pleated skirt (22,000 yen/RFW) will create a fresh, mature silhouette.

We also recommend a style that combines a logo sweatshirt (16,000 yen/RFW), a schoolgirl essential, with a crisp long skirt (37,000 yen) from ELIN. The neck of the sweatshirt is made into a boat neck to avoid looking too casual, creating a monochrome outfit with a mature style that is easy for adult women to try.

A good balance of feminine and mannish is achieved by pairing a loose A-line striped long T-shirt (16,000 yen/RFW) with fashionable leather-look gaucho pants (37,000 yen) from SACRA. The striped shirt is accented with black bow details on the back and hem, reminiscent of school style.

■ For a feminine and classic schoolgirl style

For a sophisticated schoolgirl look, try pairing Erin's compact silhouette striped knit (35,000 yen) with a checked cocoon skirt (19,000 yen/RFW) that has a tutu tucked below the hips for a natural fullness. A schoolgirl staple, the checked skirt is sure to lift your spirits.

Schoolie items are also available among the popular set-up items on this floor. From AMIW, we recommend the boxy silhouette set (top: ¥18,000, skirt: ¥24,000) available in three colors: moss green, navy, and white. Adding an original detachable collar (¥9,000/RFW), made by a shirt manufacturer, to this boxy silhouette top adds a trendy touch. The same can be said for Erin's simple jumper skirt (¥43,000), where the detachable collar adds a school-girl vibe. Simply adding a detachable collar to this monochromatic jumper skirt with a tight silhouette toward the hem creates a sophisticated school style. If you're looking to incorporate trends as autumn begins, we also recommend checking out the schoolgirl style for adults. This floor will be promoting this season's theme, "Timeless Wardrobe," by combining timeless items with trendy elements.
