Marche Écute Kanda Manseibashi will host the illuminations "The Story of the Lights" from November 22nd to March 15th.
The remains of the old Manseibashi Station staircase, which opened to the public for the first time in 70 years when the station opened in 2013, will be illuminated with red, blue, and green LED power lights, bringing to life its history. Even the shadows of passersby will be transformed into three-color shadows, making for a fun photo opportunity. Furthermore, the corridor at the top of the 1935 Staircase will feature a snow-like lighting effect, creating a mystical space. These stairs were installed during the construction of the Railway Museum's new wing, and feature concrete treads and flat-jointed tile joints on the walls. The other 1912 Staircase features treads carved from Inada stone and the "encircled joint" pattern also seen in the bricks of Tokyo Station, preserving its original appearance.
The South Corridor, lined with shops, will also feature illuminations using logs and mason jars. The sustainability of these food storage jars and the tree rings of the logs express the charm of Marché Écute, which incorporates historical railway remains. In addition, illuminations inspired by the "Edo red spider lilies that bloom in winter" will be displayed around the JR Kanda Manseibashi Building.
To coincide with the illuminations, a custom and select mason jar shop will also open for the Christmas season only. Workshops will also be held where you can make your own original lamps.
