From October 21st to November 27th, ATELIER MUJI, located within the MUJI Yurakucho store in Tokyo, will host an event called "Rediscover, Re-create: Found MUJI," showcasing the history of MUJI's "Found MUJI" project.
"Found MUJI" is an initiative that MUJI has been pursuing since its inception. It seeks out timeless everyday items from around the world, slightly refining them to suit lifestyles, cultures, and customs, and introducing them to the public. While these are excellent everyday items, their quality alone makes them difficult to incorporate into modern life. Through dialogue with the creators, MUJI has refined and refashioned them into MUJI pieces. In 2011, the first MUJI store was renovated as "Found MUJI Aoyama," and the brand has expanded its sales areas to stores around the world.
This exhibition will trace the history of this forward-looking initiative from 1980 to 2016. Furthermore, on November 5th there will be a talk event entitled "Found MUJI, a journey to find MUJI on Earth" featuring Naoko Yano of Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. and Naoto Fukasawa, product designer and MUJI advisory board member.
