Liam Gillick's solo exhibition "Stardust Expression" is currently running at TARO NASU in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, through November 12th.
Liam Gillick is a British-born, New York-based artist whose work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Guggenheim Museum. He represented Germany at the 53rd Venice Biennale and has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the 10th Documenta.
The exhibition is part of Gillick's new book series, "Stardust Expression," scheduled for publication in 2017. The series follows on from "Letters from Moscow," which Gillick created for the 2015 Moscow Biennale without ever leaving his New York apartment. The series explores the confusion, contradictions, and intrigues that arise during the construction of a new, linear city.
The exhibition is comprised of wall-mounted structures, graphics, and text works, with several ring-shaped text works displayed on the walls. The works repeatedly announce the exhibition title, gradually shifting to more unstable and emotive content. The illuminated wall installation and text works are linked by a series of graphics, each of which brings to light the outlines of a new book. The exhibition provides an opportunity to learn about the title and structure of Gillick's new series of books.
