Noritaka Tatehana takes over the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum! "Noritaka Tatehana: The Aesthetics of Magical Power" exhibition opens

Oct 26, 2016

The exhibition "Tatehana Noritaka: The Aesthetics of Magical Power," featuring artist Tatehana Noritaka, will run from November 3 to March 5, 2017, at the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. Tatehana's "heelless shoes," inspired by courtesan geta sandals and created as his graduation project at Tokyo University of the Arts, caught the eye of Lady Gaga and catapulted him into the art scene. This exhibition will take over the entire museum, including Okamoto Taro's studio, and feature Tatehana's largest-ever exhibition. The exhibition will include new works that deviate from his usual style and clash with Okamoto Taro, as well as excerpts from his "Traces of a Continuing History" series, in which he casts his own skeleton. Along with rare audio and video footage of Okamoto Taro, visitors will be transported to a world where the past and future intertwine. There will also be artist talks featuring Noritaka Tatehana himself. "Noritaka Tatehana Speaks - The Aesthetics of Magical Power" will be held from 7pm on November 9th, "Yamaguchi Kei (Christie's New York) x Noritaka Tatehana" will be held from 7pm on December 14th, and "Hirano Akiomi (Director of the Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum) x Noritaka Tatehana" will be held from 7pm on January 13th, 2017. In addition, limited edition goods celebrating the exhibition will be on sale, including postcards, clear files, posters, iPhone cases, and leather key chains.
