The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Event Plaza will host the annual "Christmas Market in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse," a winter tradition, from November 26th to December 25th. Believed to have originated in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1393, the "Christmas Market" is an event where people enjoy shopping for Christmas during the Advent period, awaiting the arrival of Christmas. The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse annually hosts the "Christmas Market in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse," a recreation of an authentic German Christmas market, with over 650,000 visitors last year. This year, marking the seventh anniversary of the event, the entire venue will be decorated in white and silver to create a snowy landscape. Fir trees adorned with warm, incandescent LED lights line the entrance, and a 10-meter-tall real fir tree, the event's symbol, will be set up on the ocean side of the venue. This year's tree design was handled by Sant Jordi Flowers The Decorator, a flower shop that offers floral gifts for loved ones. The white-based decorations unify the venue's unique atmosphere, creating a fantastical, fairytale-like atmosphere. A giant nutcracker, also found in authentic German Christmas markets, will also be on display. Artificial snow will fall on the grounds every hour on the hour between 11:30 AM and 8:30 PM on December 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 24th, creating a magical white Christmas. (Note: Events may be canceled in the event of bad weather or strong winds.) The wooden hut just past the entrance offers essential German Christmas food and drinks, including stollen cake, mulled wine, and sausages. The ever-popular "Baumkuchen" has been upgraded, offering freshly baked treats right before your eyes. This year, customers can also choose to top their baumkuchen with jam, chocolate, and more. Additionally, a giant marshmallow smothered in piping hot chocolate will be available for the first time. Served on a stick, it allows visitors to enjoy the market while munching on it. Other items on sale include Erzgebirge dolls, a traditional craft from the Erzgebirge region of Germany. During the event, workshops will be held to help visitors make ornaments and Christmas wreaths, essential Christmas tree accessories, and Santa Claus will even make an appearance on select days. Additionally, a related campaign, "RED BRICK White CHRISTMAS," will be held. During the event, stores within the building will offer Christmas-themed goods and food exclusively at the Red Brick Warehouse. Also, from December 3rd to February 19th, 2017, another winter tradition in Yokohama, "Art Rink in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse," will be held, where a variety of artists will decorate the space with art, using the entire skating rink as a canvas.
