May 17, 2014

Musician Enya was born on May 17, 1961, in County Donegal, Ireland. In 1980, she joined Clannad, an Irish traditional folk band, alongside her sister, as a keyboardist. They released the albums "Crann UII" and "Fuaim." She then left the band and developed her own unique musical style, combining piano instrumentals with Irish lyrics. In 1986, she composed the music for the BBC documentary "The Celts." An album of the soundtrack she produced was released the following year in 1987. In 1988, she signed with WEA UK and released her first album, "Watermark." The single, "Orinoco Flow," reached number one in the UK for three consecutive weeks and sold 10.5 million copies worldwide. Her second album, "Shepherd Moon," in 1991, and her third album, "Memory of Trees," in 1995, were major hits. Her greatest hits album, "Paint the Sky With Stars," released in 1997, became a best-seller, selling over 1.8 million copies in Japan alone.

It was around this time that Enya's songs also began to be used as movie theme songs. Her fourth album, "A DAY WITHOUT RAIN," included the theme songs for "Sweet November," "Only Time," and "Between Calm and Passion." In 2009, she also sang the theme song for Fuji TV's 50th anniversary drama, "Ordinary Miracles."
