"101 Cats" exhibition held in Daikanyama. Illustrator working with Mr.Children and SPUR

May 24, 2014

Gallery Speak For in Daikanyama, Tokyo, is hosting illustrator Toru Ogasawara's solo exhibition "101 Cats," which began on May 23rd.

This is Ogasawara's first solo exhibition at the venue in three years since his 2011 solo exhibition "Nounai Drive," and is comprised almost entirely of newly painted illustrations. The title refers to the motif of "cats," which frequently appears in Ogasawara's work, and which he describes as "like the inhabitants of a magical world, and I like the mysterious atmosphere." Approximately 40 original drawings, large and small, will be on display and for sale, along with original goods and related merchandise such as T-shirts and small publications such as zines.

Born in 1975, Ogasawara graduated from the Department of Image Engineering at Tokyo Polytechnic University. After that, he worked as an illustrator, working on a wide range of projects, including illustrations for magazines such as "SPUR," "POPEYE," and "Hanako," as well as illustrations for Mr. Children tour merchandise and the CD cover for Kimaguren. He won the grand prize at the "HB Gallery FILE Competition" twice, in 2009 and 2012.
