On July 5th, at 2:30 PM local time (9:30 PM Japan time), Dior presented Maria Grazia Chiuri's Fall/Winter 2021-2022 Haute Couture collection at the Musée Rodin in Paris. After a period of presenting Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior collections, primarily through video, and under strict constraints, the time has come to reclaim the value of haute couture. Tangible fabrics take on form, and the revolutionary language of embroidery becomes a performance, brought together in a single project. The show's backdrop was French artist Eva Jospin's "Chambre de Soie" (Silk Room), a life-size wall-mounted embroidery installation evoking the Indian "Embroidery Room" at Rome's Palazzo Colonna. Using this work as a precious stage setting, dresses were presented with bodies patterned with ornate pleats, trains, and handwoven chains. Couture awakens unexpected desires and reveals the unknown. Isn't that the role of the avant-garde? To make visible the invisible. Through artistic practice and exceptional savoir-faire, it reveals the aspirations of a world in the midst of profound change.
