Harajuku select shop Lamp Harajuku has launched the "ALTERNATIVE MARRIAGE" project, proposing a free and original marriage style for women who have their own unique style in fashion and lifestyle.
The store is also holding an "Alternative Marriage Fair" to celebrate the project. Based on the theme of "street marriage," the fair offers pop-design pastel-colored dresses, vintage accessories, and works by artists. The second floor of the store also features a display resembling an altar and guest seating area, reminiscent of a wedding venue, displaying miscellaneous goods, accessories, dresses, and wedding veils from Daikanyama antique shop Domino Antiques and vintage clothing store HAIGHT&ASHUBURY. The exhibition also features bouquets made from sugar charms and icing cookies, a collaboration between sugar art artist thumb and cakes and knitwear artist acco.
To celebrate the launch of this new project, the "Alternative Marriage Wedding Party" was held on the 27th. A wedding cake by thumb and cakes was prepared, and a mock wedding ceremony was held featuring the humanoid robot Martin, a work by creative unit studio magma, and model Tezuka Yuki.
In addition, on the same day, a "'Beyond the Door' x Alternative Marriage" pop-up shop opened in the container shop on the first floor of Laforet Harajuku. With the theme of "THE STRAGE HOUSE WEDDING," Yajima Sayoko of design office KLOKA created a romantic world with a touch of horror, reminiscent of the film "The Addams Family." The event runs until June 8th.
Etsuko Yoneyama, the creative director who produced the project, commented, "There are probably many people who think it's a bit much to spend hundreds of thousands of yen on a wedding dress that they'll only wear once. This project is for girls who want to have a more casual and unique wedding. We're planning a second event around October."
