Aug 10, 2016

The unveiling of "Ring: One with Mature," a new work by Japanese contemporary artist Mariko Mori, which is part of the official cultural program of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games, took place in Muriqui, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 2nd local time.

The work is part of a grand project by the Faou Foundation, a New York-based public interest foundation based on the concept of "harmony between nature and humans," and is part of a series of site-specific artworks to be installed on six continents. It was permanently exhibited atop a 58-meter-tall waterfall called "the Veu da Noiva" (Bride's Veil) in Muriqui, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro. As the sun rises and the angle of sunlight changes over the course of the day, the work takes on a beautiful glow that changes from blue to gold.

Mori Mariko shared her thoughts about the work with those involved and the press, saying, "I am delighted to be able to share 'Ring: One with Mature' with the people of Brazil and visitors from all over the world. I hope that a 'Ring' will be born in the hearts of everyone who views the work, and that this will connect with the circle of people all over the world in the spirit of 'Onness'."

On August 5th local time, Mori Mariko appeared as a torchbearer in the city of Rio, which was bustling with excitement just before the opening of the Olympics, and also played the important role of passing on the Olympic flame in the torch relay.
