5 Recommended Restaurants & Spots on Rue Rambuteau in Paris, a Place Frequented by Parisian Women [From Cities: Longing for Cities of the World Vol. 9]

Jun 29, 2021

In our series, "From Cities: Longing for the Cities of the World," we bring you the latest local information on cities around the world, including Paris, Milan, New York, etc., notable addresses, and authentic city snaps! We'll be sending you these articles with the hope that in the near future, when we can travel abroad freely again, we'll be sending you these articles for a while, with that same feeling in mind.

In this ninth installment, we'll focus on Rue Rambuteau in Paris, France.

While Paris is famous for the Champs-Élysées and Rue Saint-Honoré, there are many other streets frequented by Parisians and Parisian women. This time, we'll introduce some gourmet spots and attractions to enjoy on Rue Rambuteau, recommended by our staff who live in Paris.

“Where is Rue Rambuteau?”
First, what you need to know about Rue Rambuteau

Rue Rambuteau is located on the edge of the Marais district, lined with boutiques in the heart of Paris.
Rue Rambuteau starts where Rue des Francs-Bourgeois in the Marais district ends, runs west, passes the Pompidou Centre, and runs until it meets Boulevard de Sébastopol.

Originally, it was a common area like a neighborhood shopping street, lined with shops and cafes selling everyday fresh foods like vegetables, meat, fish, and bread. Recently, there has been some renewal, and new, stylish stores have been increasing, making it a great spot to drop in casually if you get hungry after enjoying shopping in the Marais or seeing an exhibition at the Pompidou Center.

Now, let's check out the recommended gourmet spots on Rue Rambuteau!

01. "BIOBURGER"
If you're looking for a light meal on Rue Rambuteau, this is the place to go!

BIOBURGER was launched in 2011 by a duo of French people who had been eating a lot of fast food since their student days, and who wondered if the fast food they were eating was bad for their health. This prompted them to create healthy fast food.

The concept behind the restaurant's menu is burgers that are 100% organic, made with fresh, non-GMO (genetically modified) ingredients, and are also reasonably priced. All of the burgers are popular, but the classic is the "L'original" with cheddar cheese and onion confit. The crispy fries are also delicious.

Mustard, ketchup, and other items are self-service, so don't forget to ask for some!
BIOBURGER has several locations in Paris, including franchise locations. Compared to the set menus of major burger chains, this burger is good value for money considering the quality.

- Single burgers from 8.40€
- Set menu (burger + fries or coleslaw + drink) from 11.90€
- Veggie burgers and kids' menus (6.5€) also available

02. "OLIVE & THYM"
The concept is street food that adapts Lebanese cuisine for French tastes

Past the Pompidou Center, where Rue Rambuteau ends, there are several Lebanese restaurants and takeout shops lined up. Two Lebanese brothers who ran one of these restaurants have opened a small restaurant called "OLIVE & THYM" on Rue Campoix, just off Rue Rambuteau. At lunchtime, it's bustling with young Parisians.

The popular one-plate bowl menu "CARTOUNÉE" combines salad with falafel, marinated thinly sliced beef, crispy chicken, etc., or rice with beef sausage, chicken, marinated thinly sliced beef, etc.

The restaurant's signature dish is the combination with falafel (a base of chickpeas and broad beans seasoned with spices, formed into a shape, and deep-fried).

Looks delicious! It might be fun to take this lunch box with you on a picnic
Falafel is a popular food in Paris, and not just at this restaurant; there is even a street in the Marais district filled with falafel sandwich shops. OLIVE & THYM serves healthy one-plate meals with plenty of colorful vegetables, making it extremely popular with health-conscious women.

03. "Terres de Café"
This is the place for your coffee break! Enjoy a carefully selected cup of coffee

Their shop on Rue Rambuteau is a lovely size. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy your coffee at one of the two tables set up outside the shop. You can enjoy a leisurely sip of exquisite coffee while watching the people waiting.

If you'd rather enjoy your coffee in a more relaxed atmosphere than at a stand-up café, we recommend their shop on Rue Blancs Manteaux (36, rue Blancs Manteaux), located about a two-minute walk from this shop. There are hanging chairs inside, allowing for a more relaxing experience. The shop's comfortable environment makes it easy to visit alone, too.

In addition to coffee, the store also sells related products.
(They are also sold at the Rambuteau store, but the Blancs Manteaux store has a wider selection.)

04. "À LA MERE DE FAMILLE"
Shop for souvenirs after lunch!

"À LA MERE DE FAMILLE" was founded in 1760 and has continued to operate despite several changes in management. It is now said to be the oldest confectionery shop in Paris. The main store (35, rue Faubourg Montmartre) is a very quaint shop that has been designated a historic building.

Although the store on Rue Rambuteau is more compact than the main store, you can find tablets, calissons, and pâte d'amandes (marzipan) sweets that make great souvenirs for around 10€.

Today, I'd like to introduce the milk and dark chocolate "Rocher Praline" (12€), which I couldn't help but pick up because of its cute packaging.

Discover sweets in charming illustrated packaging!

Some of the Pâte d'Amandes sweets are designed to coincide with seasonal events, and in May, rose-shaped ones are released for Mother's Day.

The shop is stocked with a variety of products that will make you smile, such as apples and bread made from Pâté Damande, so even if you're not a sweet tooth, you'll find something fun to browse.

05. "Musée des Archives Nationales"
Have a picnic at the French National Archives

If you need a break after your meal, why not stop by the nearby "French National Archives (Musée des Archives Nationales)" for a picnic and a break?

While alcohol is prohibited, food and drink is permitted, so enjoy a takeout lunch or tea. During lunchtime, many people enjoy lunch with colleagues and friends, and the benches can fill up quickly. However, at other times, there are fewer people and you can relax.
