The Ritz-Carlton Nikko (Address: 2482 Nakamiya, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture) celebrated its first anniversary on July 15, 2021. As we start a new year, we will continue to launch various initiatives to help our guests discover more deeply the hidden charms of Nikko.
The Ritz-Carlton Nikko is surrounded by the Nikko mountain range, including Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji, and Mt. Nantai.
◇Limited-time Afternoon Tea Using Natsuotome Summer Strawberries
Taking advantage of the high altitude climate, which is cool even in summer, including Senjogahara, located at an altitude of 1,400 meters, Tochigi Prefecture produces a summer strawberry called Natsuotome. For a limited time, from July 15th to early September, we will be offering afternoon tea sweets made with an abundance of this rare strawberry. "Natsuotome" strawberries have a good balance of sweetness and acidity and are characterized by a refreshing fragrance. They are delivered directly to the hotel after being fully ripened in the fields, and during this period, the moist scones will be served with a special jam made with Natsuotome strawberries. We have created a menu that allows you to experience the charm of summer ingredients unique to the cool Oku-Nikko, known as a summer resort, and Tochigi Prefecture, a treasure trove of food.

◇The amulets given to guests at check-out will also have a new color for the second year

At The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko, guests are given an original amulet upon check-out, wishing them a safe journey that continues after their stay at the hotel and a safe return home. As we enter our second year since opening, guests checking out from July 16th onwards will be given a new red amulet instead of the previous navy blue one. This service allows you to cherish the memories of your trip even after you return home, through the spiritual culture unique to Nikko.
◇Addition of activities to discover the hidden charms of Nikko
Since opening, The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko has devised and offered approximately 20 different activities to guests that allow them to discover the depths of Nikko throughout the four seasons. Now, to commemorate the first anniversary of its opening, we have begun offering two activities that sublimate the charms of Oku-Nikko's culture and nature.
Fly Fishing at Lake Yunoko and the Yukawa River
~Tracing the Footsteps of Thomas Glover~

The shores of Lake Chuzenji in Oku-Nikko are a unique place rich in history and culture, where ambassadors and many other foreigners gathered and built villas from the mid-Meiji period to the early Showa period. Thomas Blake Glover, a British merchant who had a major influence on Japan's modernization, also built a villa on the shores of Lake Chuzenji. In 1902 (Meiji 35), Glover released brook trout into Lake Yunoko and the Yukawa River, the first fishermen in Japan to do so, introducing British-style fishing to the area. This makes Oku-Nikko the birthplace of fly fishing in Japan. In order to preserve the hidden fly fishing culture of Oku-Nikko, we have prepared a plan that allows even beginners to experience fly fishing with peace of mind.
