To commemorate the 140th anniversary of Seiko's founding, Seiko Watch Corporation will release a new masterpiece model from its Grand Seiko line on August 6th. The dial and case dynamically depict the starry sky of Achi Village in Shinshu, reputed to be "Japan's most beautiful starry sky*1." The suggested retail price is 8.8 million yen (tax included), and the watch is limited to 50 pieces worldwide.

Inspired by Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori's belief of "always being one step ahead of the times," Grand Seiko has striven to create the finest wristwatches ever, pursuing and realizing the essential qualities of a wristwatch—accuracy, ease of viewing, and beauty—at a high level through "innovation and evolution."
This model truly embodies Kintaro's beliefs, featuring Seiko's unique Spring Drive movement, boasting a long power reserve of approximately 84 hours, and a striking dial and case design meticulously crafted over time.

Product Features
A dial that sparkles with multiple layers and a case meticulously hand-patterned.

All Grand Seiko Spring Drive models are crafted at the Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture. The starry skies of Achi Village, also located in the Shinshu region, are said to be "Japan's most beautiful," thanks to a combination of various elements, including its high altitude, clean air, and mountainous surroundings.

The brilliance of the dial, which at first glance appears to be glitter, is achieved by applying multiple layers of plating and paint to a textured base, resulting in a delicate, deep sparkle that changes depending on the reflection of light and the viewing angle. The radial pattern on the platinum case, reminiscent of the shining light of stars, is polished to perfection using Zaratsu polishing, and then meticulously engraved one by one by skilled artisans.

The hour and minute hands and indexes are made of 14K white gold, emanating a delicate and beautiful shine. The SD mark (Special Dial = dial with solid gold indexes) at 6 o'clock attests to the exclusivity of this model.

A Spring Drive movement that combines a slim form with long-lasting power.

This model is equipped with the manual-winding Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9R02, crafted by the experienced artisans of Micro Artist Studio (*2), a luxury watchmaking specialist. At just 4.02mm thick, the movement alone is the thinnest of any current Grand Seiko Spring Drive movement, contributing greatly to the slim, refined 9.8mm case design. Meanwhile, the watch combines a "dual spring barrel"—which houses two thin, long mainsprings stacked in parallel within a single barrel—with a "torque return system" (*3), achieving a long power reserve of approximately 84 hours, making it highly practical.

The outlines of the bridges and the areas around the holes visible through the see-through case back have been mirror-finished by master craftsmen to ensure they shine beautifully from any angle. Furthermore, the entire flat surface of the bridges has also been hand-grained, highlighting the polished mirror surface and the ruby and temper blue screws, creating a refined beauty. The barrel, from which the mainspring peeks out, features a bellflower, the city flower of Shiojiri.

The 18K yellow gold plate is engraved with the words "Micro Artist," but this can be customized to any desired inscription.

Since its birth in 1960, Grand Seiko has been a brand that has made continuous progress, pursuing and realizing the essential qualities of a watch—accuracy, beauty, and legibility—at a high level, striving to create the finest watches. The company began full-scale global expansion in 2010 and has earned high praise around the world for its top-level performance and sophisticated design, which can only be achieved by one of the few true manufacturers in the world.

(※1)
Achi Village in Nagano Prefecture was recognized as the "best place for stargazing" in 2006 by the Ministry of the Environment's Nationwide Stargazing Observation Project.

(※2) Micro Artist Studio
Micro Artist Studio is one of the main workshops in the "Shinshu Time Craftsman Workshop." It was established within Seiko Epson Corporation's Shiojiri Plant in 2000 with the aim of passing on watchmaking skills. Currently, its staff includes "Contemporary Master Craftsmen," including gold medalists from the World Skills Competition and recipients of the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, who utilize their advanced skills and techniques to create complex timepieces.

(※3) Torque Return System
This ingenious mechanism maximizes the high-torque characteristics of Spring Drive, efficiently utilizing limited energy to extend the watch's running time. For approximately 48 hours after the high-torque fully wound state, the mainspring recycles energy to self-wind. As a result, the combined power consumption with the dual spring barrel is approximately 84 hours (3.5 days).
