teamLab will be holding "Shimogamo Shrine Tadasu no Mori Light Festival Art by teamLab" at Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto until August 31st.

Two works will be on display during the event, including "Resonating Trees, Shimogamo Shrine Tadasu no Mori," in which the trees lining the approach to Shimogamo Shrine's Tadasu no Mori, a World Heritage Site, are lit up and sparkle. The light of each tree is autonomous, shining brightly and then fading as if slowly breathing. Furthermore, when visitors or animals pass nearby, the light changes color and emits a tone, spreading the light from tree to tree.

Meanwhile, "Resonating Spheres - Shimogamo Shrine" will be exhibited in the space inside the tower gate of Shimogamo Shrine. Spheres of light floating in the tower gate are autonomous, shining brightly and then fading, behaving as if slowly breathing. When the sphere of light is struck by a person or bumped into something, it changes color and emits a tone specific to that color. The spheres around it then resonate, changing to the same color and emitting the same tone. The light of the trees near the sphere also resonates in the same way, and that light extends beyond the Romon gate, resonating with the light of the trees on the approach to the shrine, changing color and emitting a tone.

The light of the trees on the approach to the shrine also propagates beyond the Romon gate, to the light of the trees inside the gate, and resonating with nearby spheres in the same way. In this way, the light of the sphere and the light of the trees on the approach to the shrine resonate with each other beyond the Romon gate, creating a mysterious space where the two works blend together.
