As part of the "adidas Consortium Tour," a year-long tour of countries focused on sneakers, adidas will release the "Superstar 80s KASINA" sneaker (priced at ¥19,000) on August 20th. This series sees adidas provide various collaborators with a blank canvas and ask them to create something innovative and unique. For this collaboration with Kasina, the brand combined two traditional manufacturing methods to incorporate design elements from more formal shoes into a modern performance sneaker concept. The designer imagined a prototype model from before the "Superstar" became an iconic model, and used traditional manufacturing methods to create the sneaker. The "Superstar" was born in the mid-20th century, and its prototype was inspired by the aesthetic sensibility and craftsmanship of that era, derived from classic saddle shoes. The iconic shell toe remains, but the upper features a vintage feel, high-quality leather, and thin stripes.
