Connecting people and art from around the world through breakfast. A digest book of the "Art & Breakfast" project [NADiff Recommended Book]

Aug 25, 2016

Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookstore "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we'll be introducing the Aichi/Nagoya branch, NADiff Aichi (2nd basement floor of the Aichi Arts Center, 1-13-2 Higashisakura, Higashi-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture).

■ "Midori Mitamura Art & Breakfast"

"Art & Breakfast" is an art project created during residencies and has been a life's work in recent years by artist Mitsuri Mitamura. The project begins with sharing breakfast with the people at her accommodations, and the insights she gains from these experiences are then incorporated into countless installations, like a stack of small stories, to fill the space. Photographs, videos, music, everyday objects, and words found in each location are arranged in the rooms like illustrations in a story. These images, interwoven with humor and sadness, tell a tale of important insights into society, history, and various issues brought about by daily life in an unfamiliar place, as well as her own memories and recollections. This book is a digest version of "Art & Breakfast," which has been held continuously since 2006 in Stockholm, Tokyo, Berlin, and other locations around the world. While it can be enjoyed as a collection of works, it will also be a delightful read for those who have actually seen the works, as it allows them to rediscover the words and scenery they saw in the exhibition space. Currently on display at the Aichi Triennale 2016, Mitamura is showcasing a culmination of her "Art & Breakfast" series, which she has presented around the world over the past decade, along with new works created in Aichi. At NADiff Aichi, the CD of "Music for Art & Breakfast," which is played in the exhibition space, is also on sale. In addition, "Art & Breakfast Day," an event derived from "Art & Breakfast," which connects people with art over breakfast, will be held at various locations during the event.
