BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), which organizes the British Academy Film Awards, is working with Burberry to launch the "Breakthrough Brits" project, which aims to discover and nurture new talent in the film, television, and games industries.
The project selects Breakthrough Brits (promising new talent) through a public call for applications, and provides them with opportunities to publicize their work and films, as well as connections to the industry. Candidates must be British citizens and have been involved in the production of a film to be released between October 2012 and October this year. The deadline for applications is July 8th.
Twenty new artists will be selected and invited to a career event at BAFTA on October 21st, as well as a reception to be held on the same evening at the world's largest Burberry flagship store, which opened on London's Regent Street last September. Over the next year, Burberry will support them in furthering their careers and expanding their scope of activity both domestically and internationally through events hosted by BAFTA and cooperation from various sectors.
Burberry also launched "Burberry Acoustic," a music project in June 2010 to discover and support talented young British artists. The project hosts live events featuring these artists at flagship stores around the world, including Japan, and at Burberry Prorsum shows, and also employs them as models.
