Gunze develops compression stockings to prevent varicose veins

Jul 1, 2013

Gunze Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Osaka City) began selling medical compression stockings used to alleviate and prevent the symptoms of varicose veins to hospitals, pharmacies, and medical institutions nationwide on July 1st. The product is manufactured by Gunze and sold through JMS Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Hiroshima City). Gunze previously offered stockings for preventing venous thrombosis, but this new product is a new addition. Varicose veins are swellings in the leg veins. Veins have valves to prevent backflow. For example, when you move your legs, the contraction and contraction of your muscles compresses the veins, acting like a pump to send blood in one direction toward the heart. However, if you do not move your muscles much for an extended period of time, blood may not be pumped properly and accumulate in the veins, putting strain on the valves and impairing their function. This eventually leads to varicose veins. One treatment for varicose veins is compression therapy. This treatment applies moderate pressure to the entire leg from the outside, preventing the veins from expanding, thereby reducing blood pooling and improving blood flow.

The newly released compression stockings are designed to apply more pressure to the legs than regular stockings, and by selecting the right size for the patient based on a doctor's diagnosis and wearing them correctly, they are expected to help alleviate and prevent symptoms such as varicose veins.

Price is 3,780 yen. They can be washed at home using a net.
