Tokyo Wani Department Store, a creative unit formed by graduates of Musashino Art University, is showcasing its installation "Alice in Festival Land" at the Isetan Girl Gallery on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku department store. It runs until August 6th. The theme of the installation is "festivals." The world Alice wanders into is a summer "festival land" ruled by the Queen of Hearts. Famous scenes from "Alice in Wonderland" are recreated with festive motifs, starting with Alice chasing the White Rabbit, followed by "Drink," the March Hare's tea party, and the Queen's quoits match. Some of the works on display are available for purchase. Tokyo Wani Department Store was formed in 2009 by Keisuke Hosaka, a graduate of the Department of Spatial Design and Display at Musashino Art University, and Mio Umekita, a graduate of the Department of Architecture at the same university. Since 2011, they have been creating three-dimensional works using rattan. In addition to head dresses and displays, they also create interior and fixture designs that combine rattan with wood and metal, and are also responsible for the design of entire spaces.
In the past, they have collaborated with children's clothing brand OJISUN and Hong Kong fashion brand Bossini. In March of this year, they took part in the spatial design of the Isetan Tachikawa store event "Let's go cherry blossom viewing!!", directed by Mikiri Hasshin Yamaguchi Sota.
Regarding this installation, Hosaka and Umekita explain, "We want you to enjoy this original world view and feel like Alice lost in Wonderland."
