■ "Christiane Lohr: Embracing the Sky"

Christiane Lohr is an artist based in Germany and Italy. Using materials collected from nature, such as the stems and seeds of plants like dandelions and thistles, or animal hair, she creates microscopic worlds, utilizing their unique properties.

This book was published in conjunction with her solo exhibition "Christiane Lohr: Embracing the Sky" (2015) at the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum in Shizuoka Prefecture.

The works are arranged at a comfortable distance from one another in the long, narrow exhibition space, with the smallest measuring just 3.5cm in length and width. While the contrast between the exposed concrete walls of the exhibition room in the background and the slender, delicate plants is striking, once you get extremely close to the works and immerse yourself in their world, their apparent fragility fades away, and you can sense their small yet certain stability as each slender, light plant balances and supports one another.

This book includes installation views of the 44 sculptures and drawings on display in the exhibition, as well as photographs by Salvatore Mazza of the works' production and installation. This is the first collection of works to be published by a Japanese publisher.
