Carrying on a 138-year tradition, leather brand Lotusse holds shoe ordering event at Shinjuku Isetan

Oct 16, 2015

LOTTUSSE, the prestigious Spanish leather lifestyle brand, is offering a made-to-order shoe service. Men's shoes will be available from October 28th to November 10th at the Men's Shoes Market on the first basement floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building, while women's shoes will be available from November 3rd to 10th at the women's shoe department on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. This service allows customers to order shoes made using the traditional Goodyear welt method, a craftsmanship that has been passed down in Mallorca for 138 years. Two styles are available: wingtip and plain toe (both starting at 95,000 yen). Customers can also choose the color and sole type using a tablet. Sole engraving is also available. A craftsman from Mallorca will be visiting Japan on November 7th and 8th to give a demonstration. Lotxé is a leather lifestyle brand founded in 1877 by Antonio Furxá, who returned to Mallorca after seven years of training in Goodyear welted shoemaking in England. He gathered skilled artisans and set out to become the best shoemaker in Spain. Antonio Furxá has a bronze statue in the Inca city and a street named after him, honoring his achievements as the "father of Mallorcan shoemaking." Lorenzo, the second generation owner, opened a directly managed retail store and won a gold medal at the 1929 Barcelona World Expo. Antonio, the third generation owner, strengthened the company's international business, founding CAMPER and the IBEROSTAR resort hotel chain. The fourth generation continues the tradition, operating shops in Spain, Germany, the United States, and China. Lotxé's products are also sold in over 250 specialty stores. Lotousse also produces Goodyear boots for the guards at Buckingham Palace in the UK, and their boots are popular with celebrities such as Majorcan tennis players Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, as well as Spanish professional golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, and Dustin Hoffman.
