In May 2021, A BATHING APE(R) teamed up with American classic sports brand NEW BALANCE to announce a collaborative project that combines the iconic designs of both brands. The new theme, inspired by sports training and military aesthetics, will be released as a collection of footwear and apparel.

The collaboration model chosen is the 2002R, one of New Balance's most popular models, which first debuted in 2020 and caused a huge stir. The shoe itself is constructed from suede, nubuck, synthetic leather, and mesh, with BAPE®'s signature "ABC CAMO" emblazoned on the mesh. It features a cushioned EVA midsole and a durable rubber outsole. The heel also features a 3M reflective BAPE® shark design. The "2002R" logo on the shoe's styling and the tongue logo label also feature 3M reflective accents, giving this historic shoe a strong street vibe.

This collaboration shoe will be released in two color combinations: BAPE®'s signature green "ABC CAMO" combined with black, and the original gray tone that symbolizes "NEW BALANCE."

The apparel in this collection includes the NEW The hooded jacket, hoodie, T-shirt, and shorts release combine BALANCE's sporty elements with BAPE®'s military culture heritage. The relaxed silhouettes are crafted from stretchy, water-repellent fabric and come in two simple colors: gray and army green. BAPE®'s signature camouflage pattern is transformed into a tonal print on details like the hood and pant pockets. The collaboration logo, combining the classic APE HEAD and "NEW BALANCE" brand logos, uses 3M Reflective technology to assert the brand's joint identity with a minimalist visual expression.

This collection, BAPE® x NEW BALANCE 2002R / BAPE® x NEW BALANCE APE HEAD TEE, will be available at authorized A BATHING APE® retailers and online store on May 22, 2021.
