The opening of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo (MBFWT) Spring/Summer 2016 was Todd Snyder's first collection in Japan.

The Spring/Summer 2016 collection, unveiled at a show on the 12th, featured the brand's signature relaxed menswear, featuring pieces primarily in indigo and aqua blue, inspired by Italian resorts and architecture such as the Riviera, Amalfi, and Capri. Many of the looks were paired with shorts and black plain-toe shoes, showcasing Todd's signature mix of sporty and classic styles in contemporary New York style.

For his Tokyo show, Todd, who says he has visited Japan more than 50 times over the past 20 years, hired stylist and photographer Takashi Kumagai. He incorporated vintage pieces into the collection, bringing a Tokyo-esque realism to the stage.

Alongside the professional models were actors Maki Kurando and Mizukami Kensei, surfer Kinoshita David, Jantique's Uchida Hitoshi, Bedwin designer Watanabe Masashi, treehouse builder Kobayashi Takashi, and architectural designer Astrid Klein, all of whom are Tokyo-based artists and creators who "share the same aesthetic sense (as Todd Snyder) and have a strong sense of style," and they added a touch of elegance to the runway of basic items.
