This year, we have received "Hashiri Shincha Asatsuyu," a new tea from a producer in Kagoshima. The young buds are hand-picked before the 88th day after harvest. This tea has a lush, strong fragrance and a high-quality, mellow sweetness and thickness. This special flavor is only available now, and is available in limited quantities.



The time when the breeze blowing across your skin becomes refreshing and comfortable. The transition between spring and summer is called "the 88th night." This refers to the 88th day counting from the beginning of spring on February 4th, and occurs around May 2nd each year.

As frost stops around this time, this has traditionally been the time to begin preparations for farm work such as rice sowing, as well as a guideline for picking tea leaves. Additionally, when combined with the character "88," it forms the character for "rice," and because "88" is considered auspicious and has a long-lasting meaning, it is said that if you drink "Hashiri Shincha," picked on the 88th day after harvest, you will be healthy and full of energy for the year. One theory is that this is because Shincha, made from new buds, is rich in umami and sweet ingredients. It has a taste that is low in bitterness and full of a refreshing, clean aroma, giving it the deliciousness that is unique to Shincha.

"Hashiri Shincha" is an auspicious item that heralds the beginning of summer.
