The Godfather Live 2015, a live cinema concert that has become a trend in the West, featuring a screening of The Godfather accompanied by a live orchestral performance of the film's soundtrack, will be held at the Tokyo International Forum on October 3rd.
The Godfather Live, a popular entertainment event combining live music and film screenings, first took place in December 2014 at London's Royal Albert Hall, drawing a sellout audience of 8,000. Previous performances have been held in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago, receiving rave reviews. After its Japan debut in October of this year, the concert will embark on a European tour of 30 cities in 17 countries.
The Godfather, a classic film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, was released in 1972 and became a box office hit, breaking box office records at the time. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It ranked second in the AFI's Top 100 American Films, first in the UK's Empire magazine's 500 Greatest British Films of All Time, and first in Japan's "Top 100 Foreign Films of All Time." It continues to be beloved as a timeless classic in film history.
In "The Godfather Live," the dialogue and sound effects from The Godfather remain intact, but only the soundtrack is performed by a live orchestra. This heightened sense of realism makes it feel like you're watching a play with live actors, even though it's a film. In the US, the audience applauded and cheered during famous lines, creating an excitement similar to that of a concert. The Tokyo performance will be conducted by Justin Freer, producer of "The Godfather Live," and performed by Japan's oldest and most prestigious orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Live cinema concert-style screening events have become a new trend in Europe and the United States, and from this year to next year, classic films such as "Back to the Future," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "E.T.," "Titanic," and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" are scheduled to be screened in cities across the United States and Europe, accompanied by full orchestral performances.
