Former geisha Hanayo and her daughter Tenko perform "Japanese Butoh" at the National Theater, launching a new project

May 5, 2015

A project has been launched through BOOSTER, a crowdfunding service run by Parco, to support the production of a Japanese dance performance by artist Hanayo and her daughter, Tenko, at the National Theater. Hanayo, a unique artist, has been active in a wide range of fields since the 1990s as a photographer, musician, and contemporary artist. She also studied classical Japanese art and spent time in the entertainment industry, where she also worked as a geisha. Her only daughter, Tenko, is also active as a model, actress, and artist. The two have collaborated on numerous projects, and this fall, Tenko will be attending university in New York. To mark the culmination of their creative endeavors, Hanayo and Tenko will perform a Japanese dance performance at the National Theater on June 21st. The crowdfunding campaign will raise funds for this "graduation stage."

The minimum price is 1,000 yen with a limited edition booklet, 2,000 yen with stage photos from the day of the performance, 5,000 yen with a BOOSTER-exclusive DVD of the performance (not for sale), and prices ranging from 10,000 yen to 300,000 yen with works by Tenko or Hanayo. The fundraising amount is 1.5 million yen, and the application period is until June 14th.
