Miyuki Morimoto's first exhibition, "Fashion Illustrator Miyuki Morimoto: From Casual to Fashion - A 30-Year Journey of Style Illustrations," is running at the Yayoi Museum of Art until September 27th. Miyuki Morimoto studied under leading Japanese fashion illustrator Setsu Nagasawa and made her debut at the age of 19. She gained popularity for her fashionable illustrations in magazines such as "mc Sister," "Olive," "25ans," and "VOGUE," remaining at the forefront of fashion until recently. In the 1990s, she became an icon of the "Shibuya-kei" boom through her collaboration with the music group Pizzicato Five. In the 2000s, she actively collaborated with cutting-edge art directors, producing a wide range of works. This exhibition showcases approximately 500 original drawings, including those kept in Morimoto's studio in Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture, her birthplace, before her sudden death in 2013 at the young age of 54. The exhibition will trace Morimoto's career spanning 30 years, from her debut to the present day, showcasing original drawings that will be shown for the first time, as well as collaborative works with art directors such as UNIQLO T-shirts and advertisements for Matsuya Ginza.
During the exhibition, a number of events are scheduled to be held, including a gallery talk featuring illustrator Kazuo Hozumi (August 9th), a talk show "Morimoto Miyuki Night!" featuring guests with ties to Morimoto (August 29th and September 5th), and a surprise gallery talk "Guerrilla Talk at 3pm."
