Hublot presents the ultimate timepiece with beautiful transparency. A tourbillon in a sapphire crystal case and bracelet.

Apr 9, 2021

Hublot unveiled the new Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire, featuring a sapphire crystal case and bracelet, at the online exhibition "Watches & Wonders 2021," running until April 13. This is the ultimate timepiece, exuding beautiful transparency.

Since introducing its first sapphire crystal watch in 2016, Hublot has consistently introduced innovative timepieces, leveraging its advanced expertise in processing this extremely hard material and developing other materials. The Big Bang Integral, characterized by its bracelet integrated into the case, employs sapphire crystal, which requires advanced processing techniques, and is equipped with an in-house developed and manufactured automatic tourbillon movement that incorporates new sapphire crystal components.

To accommodate the in-house developed and manufactured automatic tourbillon movement, Hublot reviewed every aspect of the case manufacturing process. For example, most visible screws were removed, and a completely new case was developed, redesigning the overall shape to integrate the sapphire crystal bracelet with the case.

The movement bridges and main plate were also reworked, making it possible to create the appearance of floating in mid-air. Inserts and attachments were developed to be as simple as possible, allowing light to reach all components. This is why the case alone contains 37 components, five of which are made entirely of sapphire crystal.

Producing the bracelet was also complex and challenging. The bracelet alone contains 165 components, 22 of which are made of sapphire crystal, requiring a special manufacturing process. One-third of the components have been newly designed to harmonize with the transparent case and ensure the bracelet's flexibility. In particular, Hublot has developed new titanium inserts that are so small they fit snugly on either side of the bracelet links - a first for the Hublot Manufacture and perhaps even in the watchmaking industry.
