To celebrate the launch of "YOSHIKIMONO - Fascinating Dress Kimono" by YOSHIKIMONO, the kimono brand created by designer YOSHIKI, the musician and member of X-JAPAN, YOSHIKI himself attended an opening event. The pop-up will be held at The Stage on the first floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku, and will run from December 26th to 31st.
YOSHIKIMONO is a brand founded by YOSHIKI, whose family owns a kimono shop, with the desire to "introduce kimonos, a traditional Japanese culture, to the world." In addition to the kimonos and dresses shown at Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2017 S/S in October, the pop-up will also feature fans, furoshiki wrapping cloths, stoles, scarves, and T-shirts, making the product lineup more accessible to a wider audience. The collection features rock-inspired motifs like skulls, butterflies, roses, and lightning bolts, as well as innovative kimonos in metallic colors like gold and silver, and off-the-shoulder mini-dresses. The luxurious worldview evokes YOSHIKI's passion for kimono and his stunning performances. "I've done innovative things with my music, so I want to break away from convention and create something innovative with YOSHIKIMONO's designs," YOSHIKI said. "Kimono is a world that values tradition, but I wanted to create something that could be worn as both a kimono and a dress, depending on how you wear it. Fashion is a free spirit, so I want people to wear it every day, and it would also look great at a rock concert." Regarding working as a designer alongside his music career, he replied, "Recording work is incredibly tough and like a battlefield, so for me, the time I spend thinking about kimono designs is a time to relax."
YOSHIKI is a musician active worldwide, but he expressed his enthusiasm by saying, "I want to study fashion more, and being in the spotlight like this is a good stimulus. I want to continue spreading kimonos around the world, and I want to keep trying new things."
