On March 7th, Nadège Vanhe-Cybulski's Hermès held its 2016-17 Autumn/Winter women's collection show in the riding grounds of the 18th-century Garde Républiquenne (headquarters of the French Republican Guard). The venue selection was fitting for Hermès, which began as a saddlery workshop. The show embraced contradictory themes: rough yet pure, simple yet refined. Simple and clean silhouettes were used to highlight the finest materials, while skillfully incorporating this season's trends, such as drop shoulders, perfectly portraying a modern Hermès image. Pieces included a cotton-silk quilted dress and a double-face cashmere dress, all simple yet highly skilled. Drop-shoulder knit jackets and hooded mouton coats were coordinated with high-neck knitwear in absinthe green and brighton blue for added pops of color. There were many highlights, including a heavy yet supple knit coat that displayed sculptural beauty, a dress made from Hermès' signature scarf print joined together with ladder lace, and a calfskin coat adorned with thousands of studs.
The final piece, a simple dress combining knitwear with jacquard silk in a bandana pattern reminiscent of a stole, was also outstanding.
