Genius chef Rene Redzepi's film "Noma: The Food That Changed the World" and Pass the Baton launch collaboration project

Apr 12, 2016

The documentary film "Noma: World-Changing Cuisine," which explores the four-year journey of chef Rene Redzepi, chef of Noma, a four-time world champion restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark, will be released nationwide on April 29th at Shinjuku Cinema Qualite and other locations. To commemorate the film's release, PASS THE BATON locations will be holding a collaborative project from April 15th to May 8th. Rene Redzepi, the genius chef, focused on Nordic ingredients, previously considered unrelated to fine dining, creating Nordic cuisine from scratch using live ants, roses, and even moss. Noma, with its unique menu, completely ignored the rules of traditional fine dining, such as no tablecloths or silverware and chefs' bare tattoos on their arms. With a unique menu, he built Noma into the world's best restaurant. However, in 2013, when everything seemed to be going smoothly, a sudden outbreak of norovirus food poisoning caused Noma to suddenly fall from its three-year consecutive No. 1 ranking. The film follows the arduous journey the hotel took to overcome this dire situation and regain its place as the world's No. 1.

To commemorate the release of this film, Pass the Baton stores and the online shop are offering five additional "Orrefors for Noma at Mandarin Oriental" memorial glasses, which were sold in limited quantities in 2015. Purchasers will also receive a movie ticket and an original movie tea towel on a first-come, first-served basis. The "Orrefors for Noma at Mandarin Oriental" memorial glasses were originally used on the tables of the pop-up restaurant that opened in Tokyo from January to February 2015 when Rene Redzepi and approximately 50 other staff members visited Japan. They were made by Orrefors, Sweden's leading crystal glass brand and a supplier to the royal family.
