In the spring of 2021, to mark the 100th anniversary of its founding, Gucci will be hosting a special event inspired by cherry blossom viewing, bringing a touch of spring excitement to the people of Japan.
The setting for Gucci's cherry blossom viewing will be Tokyo Tower, one of the city's most beloved landmarks. To celebrate cherry blossom viewing season, Tokyo Tower will be illuminated in Gucci's signature colors and the pink of cherry blossoms from sunset to midnight every Friday, March 19th and 26th.
In addition, limited-time content will be available to brighten your days with a breath of fresh air through AR (virtual reality) images. From March 19th to April 2nd, simply visit the dedicated website g-hanami.com and point your smartphone camera at Tokyo Tower to see flowers blooming, heralding the arrival of spring, filling the screen. You can also take a photo of the AR image and share it with friends and family, even if they're not in the same place.
The flowers displayed in AR are a floral pattern designed by Ken Scott, an American designer active in the 1960s and 1970s. This floral pattern, featuring large, vibrantly printed flowers, also adorns items from Gucci's Epilogue collection. Today, Ken Scott is part of the Mantero brand, a textile company based in Como, Italy, and its extensive archives are preserved at the Ken Scott Foundation, established by Mantero.
Gucci hopes that the people of Japan will enjoy this unique cherry blossom viewing, which combines real light displays with the virtual world, and share in the joy of welcoming the new season.
