Abeno Harukas sales increase 35%, customer numbers 1.9 times lower than planned

Three months have passed since the opening of the Tower Building of Kintetsu Department Store's Abeno Harukas Main Store on June 13th. As of September 11th, Kintetsu Department Store announced that, while sales were below plan, sales had increased 35% year-on-year to just over ¥24 billion, and the number of visitors had increased 1.9 times compared to the previous year to 7.4 million.

The reason for the lower-than-planned figures was due to reduced foot traffic due to renovations to the Wing Building, a specialty shopping arcade. However, the store remains committed to achieving its targets, as the partial opening of the Wing Building on October 10th will increase foot traffic.

In addition, while the elderly demographic declined, the number of young people under 40 increased 2.3 times. The store plans to strengthen its appeal to the active senior demographic, which declined with the partial opening of the Wing Building in October. In terms of the commercial area, the company has also seen an increase in visitors from surrounding cities such as Nara, Ikoma, Sakai, Izumi, and Kishiwada, with a particular increase during the Obon period in August. Furthermore, the company's nearby Uehommachi and Nara stores have not seen a decline in sales compared to before the Harukas opened, and the company believes that "they have not been adversely affected by the opening." For this reason, the company is bullish, saying, "It is possible to achieve a commercial area of 6.2 million people." The company expects annual visitor numbers to be 45 million.

In addition, the average customer spend has also increased, reaching 1,800 to 1,900 yen in the restaurant area on floors 12 to 14, and the trend is also increasing on other floors excluding the restaurant area.
