After graduating from high school, he entered Canon's "New Cosmos of Photography" contest and won the grand prize at age 18, the youngest of any contestant. His photo book, "HIROMIX," was released simultaneously in 32 countries worldwide in 1998. In 2001, he won the 26th Kimura Ihei Award alongside Yurie Nagashima and Mika Ninagawa, garnering attention as a pioneer of the girly photography boom. In 2001, he published a collection of his works, including the KEITA MARUYAMA 2001 Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections. In addition to her work as a photographer, she has also been active as an actress, model and DJ, appearing in the 2003 film Lost in Trust, directed by Sofia Coppola.
