World launched the "Ecoromo Campaign" on September 11th at 30 department stores nationwide and 11 shopping centers that house World's "FLAXUS" lifestyle store. This campaign, part of a social contribution initiative aimed at "maximizing the value of clothing through reuse and recycling without waste," marks its 10th anniversary. Since the Fall/Winter 2011 campaign, the company has expanded its scope of use to include reuse through collaboration with recycling partners. It has also achieved a strong track record in recycling, having recycled a total of over 1.97 million pieces of clothing as of this spring/summer. In this campaign, customers who bring in clothing from any manufacturer, not just World products, can exchange one coupon for a limited period of time at the company's stores in the department store or shopping center where the clothing is collected.
When the "Ecoromo Campaign" began its fall/winter 2011 clothing reuse campaign, it donated proceeds to Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures to support children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. In the 2012 campaign, 3,107,660 yen in proceeds from the department store event was donated to Fukushima Prefecture's "Fukushima Children's Fund for the Great East Japan Earthquake," and 3,662,911 yen in proceeds from the shopping center event was donated to Miyagi Prefecture's "Miyagi Children's Fund for the Great East Japan Earthquake." The total amount donated through this campaign has reached 7,887,220 yen. Proceeds from the ongoing campaign will continue to be donated to support children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
