Sanyo Yamacho, a men's shoe brand developed by Sanyo Shokai, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The brand will be releasing its Prestige Line, which pursues quality approaching that of bespoke shoes, from leather to finishing, in three models: Tomojiro, Yuichiro, and Genshiro, at five stores and its direct online store, Sanyo iStore, from March 10th.

Since its debut in 2001 as a luxury men's shoe brand from Japan, Sanyo Yamacho has consistently created products that embody the skill and stylish spirit of Japanese artisans. With a belief in quality as its top priority, the brand has used the world's best materials to provide high-quality products made by skilled Japanese artisans. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the brand's founding, and with the aim of aiming for even greater heights in shoemaking, we have launched the "Prestige Line," which updates our three flagship models, "Toujiro," "Yuichiro," and "Genshiro," in pursuit of quality that approaches that of bespoke shoes, from the leather to the finishing touches.
The Concept of the "Prestige Line"

Based on the concept of "making a pair of shoes that are as close to bespoke as possible," we have achieved high quality in everything from the leather to the finish. The insocks are also engraved with "Specially Made in Japan" as a logo symbolizing made-to-order shoes, differentiating them from the regular line.
Made with leather produced by a historic tannery
- The upper is made from box calf leather from HAAS, a historic tannery in Alsace, France, which has been in business since 1842. It is a leather that combines fine grain, firmness, and suppleness, giving it all the right qualities.
- The lining, like the upper, is made from HAAS leather, which gently envelops the foot and provides a soft, clingy feel.
- The sole is made from oak bark leather from MARTIN, a prestigious tannery founded in Germany in 1642. Its time-consuming manufacturing methods make it an ideal sole material, as it beautifully displays the durable welt finish.
Quality achieved with meticulous attention to detail
Traditional Japanese “Yahazushi Finish”
- The edges are carved out in a triangular shape using a “Yahazushi Finish“, which is said to be a traditional Japanese style. This gives them a sharper edge than regular flat edges, creating a more refined impression.
Heel area “Seamless heel”
- Normally there would be a seam in the heel area, but we have used a seamless heel (made in one piece) to further highlight the finest materials. We have also created a pitched heel that tapers towards the bottom, further emphasising elegance.
Delicate Stitching
- The stitching has been made with a more precise pitch, resulting in an even more delicate and firm look.

"Kinsei Tomojiro" is a high-quality version of the brand's signature straight tip. While the base is the same as the classic model, with the "R2010" last tailored to the Japanese foot shape, swan-neck stitching on the side, and a small toe cap, this shoe stands out from the regular line thanks to its high-quality materials and bespoke tailoring. The semi-beveled waist, which narrows the arch area, creates an even more elegant curve.

A seamless whole cut shoe that makes the most direct use of the quality of the upper. Cutting the leather is extremely difficult as large pieces need to be removed, avoiding scratches and blood vessels. What's more, the only seam is finished with "skin stitching," which stitches together the cross-section of leather about 1mm thick, resulting in a pair of shoes that speaks not only to the materials but also to the high level of skill of Japanese shoemakers.
