Hiroko Koshino, who works as both a fashion designer and an artist, is holding an exhibition titled "Trees, and Life, Shine, Path, Joy, Spirit..." at the KH Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, until August 24th.
This exhibition, the seventh since the gallery opened in 2012, brings together 15 pieces themed around "trees," which Koshino has been painting for many years. In addition to new works, the exhibition also includes works that were previously shown at an exhibition in Paris and a folding screen that was displayed at a party celebrating Koshino's 77th birthday, held in Kyoto in January of this year.
Attending the opening reception, Koshino said, "When I opened my atelier in Ashiya 13 years ago, I named it Semper, hoping to stay fresh and youthful for the rest of my life, just like the Semper sequoia I planted there. I still believe it's important to live in nature, so I work in fashion in Tokyo and return to Ashiya on weekends to create my works, inspired by nature and trees. In a sense, trees are my eternal theme. I admire the strong energy of nature, which humans lack, and the way they stand firmly rooted in the earth and live their lives."
