JACK SPADE has launched a series called "Travel Supply" on its website. Each month, Kazuhiro Yamaji, owner of the Shibuya-based second-hand bookstore Flying Books, introduces a selection of books based on a variety of themes. The book's historical background and culture highlight the brand's items. Each month, individuals from a wide range of fields appear to create personal spaces using the selected books and the brand's items. The second installment, "Tools that Supported Literature and Nature," is currently available and features Todd Magill, senior design director at JACK SPADE. Magill describes Portland, Oregon, as "a warm city with a rich forest and greenery. In terms of color theory, it's dark green and brown." He introduces John Suiter's book "Poets on the Peaks."
This book depicts the time when Beat Generation poets Gary Snyder and Jack Kerouac worked as rangers in the mountains of Oregon and Northern California while writing. Snyder is also the real-life inspiration for the protagonist in Kerouac's sequel to On the Road, Dharma Bums.
The next issue of Travel Supply will feature illustrator Masakatsu Shimoda.
