
The Towada Art Center in Aomori will host the exhibition "The Spirit of Tanaka Chuzaburo" from November 1st.
The exhibition focuses on Tanaka Chuzaburo, who devoted his life to studying Aomori folk culture. The exhibition features precious clothing and folk implements from Tanaka's collection, a renowned antique collector. Additionally, numerous works by contemporary artists, including Yamashita Harumitsu and Yamagata Yoshikazu of writtenafterwards, who approach materials from their own unique perspectives, such as Nambu diamond embroidery, embroidery, and costumes, will also be on display.
During the exhibition, a "Handicraft Workshop" will open within the museum. This space will be open as a space for enjoying finger-based crafts and play, including sashiko, embroidery, and cat's cradle. Workshops are also planned for the weekend. On November 23rd, visitors can create small artworks using Aomori's traditional Nambu diamond embroidery. A "Tsugaru Kogin Embroidery Experience" will be held on December 7th, followed by "Reviving Memorable Clothes with Nanbu Diamond Embroidery" on January 10th.
In addition, on November 1st there will be a screening of a film by director Izumiyama Rodo, who continues to make a variety of videos on themes such as Miyagi Prefecture's earthquake recovery and expressive activities for people with disabilities. The following day, a bus tour will be held entitled, "A journey to experience the disappearing lifestyle of the past and receive the feelings embedded in objects."
