On October 24th, Shiseido held a special performance at the Shiseido Ginza Building to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Miss Shiseido's birth, "New Modern Beauty Drama: The People Who Make People Beautiful—The Story of Shiseido Beauty Consultants." Miss Shiseido, the predecessor of today's beauty consultants (BCs), was born in 1934. In the early Showa period, when few women were active in society and makeup was uncommon, these women acquired extensive knowledge and culture during their seven-month training period. To impart proper beauty techniques in an era before television, they staged "modern beauty dramas" across the country, showcasing scenes from everyday makeup application. This one-day performance marked the 80th anniversary of Miss Shiseido's birth as a "theatrical presentation show" that conveyed the inherited feelings and hopes for the future to the audience. Many current BCs appeared in the performance. The story follows Miss Shiseido (Kimie Shingyoji) from 80 years ago, who visits Tsubaki (starring Maiko), a new BC in training. Together, they explore Shiseido's history and future. The original story was written by Kundo Koyama, a TV writer and screenwriter, and the stage director and playwright G2 served as the scriptwriter and director. The play features uniforms from past BCs, including designs by renowned Japanese designers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake. Earlier this year, Belgian designer Veronique Branquinho also created a buzz with uniforms. The show also showcased Shiseido's future initiatives, including the world's first patented online beauty consultation service, "At Home Beauty Consultation," the "True Mirror" that allows customers to virtually experience new makeup designs through a screen, and relaxing music software that converts hand movements during a facial massage into sound.
