On October 1st, a new zone was opened on the 6th floor Baby & Kids section of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, offering parents and children an opportunity to learn about and think about the global environment and the cultures of various countries.
The zone, which runs until the 14th, will feature Patagonia products. Long known for its commitment to both the environment and people, the zone will feature a panel explaining the types of animals whose feathers are used in down jackets, encouraging children to consider how human life is made possible by the bounty of nature.
In addition, on October 4th and 5th, a workshop will be held where children can learn about the origins of the feathers used in down jackets.
French baby and children's goods brand Coq en Pate has also incorporated environmental education into its product designs. In addition to classic animal motifs like giraffes and lions, the brand will offer a line featuring endangered species like polar bears and gorillas. Items like bags (5,900 yen), T-shirts (4,300 yen), backpacks (6,900 yen), and coin purses (2,300 yen) feature unique features designed to help children learn about the global environment, such as the "Help" mall traffic light.
Popular brand Fjallraven also offers a Känken bag (7,800 yen) featuring an endangered Arctic fox. Incidentally, "Känken" means "to carry," and the bag is a global hit thanks to its cute design that can be carried by hand as well as used as a backpack.
Another corner featuring adorable stuffed animals like lions and foxes also features a clever twist. Stand in front of the animals and step on the animal paw prints on the floor to hear the sounds of various animals.
The zone will continue to propose pop-ups and events that will give parents and children an opportunity to think about the environment and culture through experiences such as seeing, touching, and listening.
